Shocked yet?
Yet another crazy week has begun. Mondays are the beginning of the week for me, since Sunday is typically my only day off, so I consider that my gift at the end of the previous crazy week. Except that I didn't get yesterday completely off... I worked 2 hours to make up for Friday, when I couldn't get my full shift in because it took me 35 minutes to get OUT OF THE PARKING LOT when I dropped Darling Daughter off at work. Seriously. Road construction. Nightmare. I can't even begin to describe the stupidity involved that gridlocked an entire Fred Meyer parking lot for HOURS. I think I was lucky to escape in 35 minutes.
Anyway, so I made up for it yesterday on my own day off. Then, I planned my grocery list to go shopping for the week. Until my husband came in the house and drug me outside to take a look at my Jeep. He'd been doing yard work and was walking past my Jeep, when, over the roar of the music in the headphones he had on and the weedeater he was carrying to the back yard (engine running), he hears this crackling sound. He turns around and notices the back passenger window of my car....shattering into a million pieces. WTF?!
He kept trying to figure out how he was to blame, except that his weedeating was taking place far, far away from my car, on the opposite side from the broken window, so it would have had to be one hell of a ricochet. We never did come up with a logical explanation. Instead, we spent two hours at high noon on a 89-degree day, removing glass, vacuuming, taking off the hard top, putting on the soft top...dropping with exhaustion. Oh, and then I still had to go grocery shopping.
Sheesh.
Checked out Darling Daughter's new-to-her car last night. She picks it up the day after graduation. Can't WAIT to get her driving....my goal is to have her licensed by fall, thus freeing me. FREEING ME, I say!
I have to tell you about my reading adventures, though. Remember 6 days ago when I mentioned I'd be picking up the first JR Ward book? Yeah, I'm 1/3 of the way through...book 3. Seriously. Such great books! And, I totally think they will help me with my writing. Give me something to aspire to. Saturday, after finishing book 2, I just wanted to make my own book bigger, better, more exciting, to, um, torture my characters a lot...okay, maybe a little. Baby steps after all. But Ward is completely fabulous at high stakes, making things worse, figuring out how to get her characters out of places I would have been terrified to put them in the first place.
If only I can be half as good, I will die a happy writer.
